Greetings,
I’m Steve Hofmeister, the Chaplain for the Maryland Republican Assembly (MRA).
Recently, it was brought to my attention that many people are confused about the MRA and how we operate in Maryland.
We will be holding some informational meetings in the near future, but I want to give a basic overview to help people better understand.
The MRA is a new Judeo-Christian-based grassroots organization in the State of Maryland that believes in small government, lower taxes, free market capitalism, a strong defense, the right to life, and a decent America with a firm root in Christian faith. We are just over a month old at the time of this writing.
The MRA is a Chapter of the larger organization, the National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA): https://www.nationalrepublicanassemblies.com/. Our paint is still wet as a chapter, so we have not appeared on their website yet.
By design, a State Chapter is intended to have county-level Chapters, each having its County-level Board under the oversight of the State-level Board. The Harford County Chapter is the first to Charter in Maryland, so it currently serves as both the State-Level Board and the Harford County Board. The board comprises the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Chaplain. Each of these individuals was nominated and elected by those attending the formation meeting that was held.
More information on these individuals will be more readily available once our website is completed and officially launched. An announcement will be formally made when it is officially online.
Recently, a meeting was held to establish a Baltimore County Chapter. Though interest was high, the meeting did not produce nominations or candidates to be elected and sworn in for the County-level Board; this did not meet the criteria set by the NFRA for establishing a Chapter, so a Baltimore County Chapter was not officially formed at this event.
We look forward to seeing a Baltimore County Chapter in the future, but leaders must be presented, nominated, elected by those in attendance (minimum of 20 attendees), and sworn in before further process can continue. This situation caused much confusion, but this is the fact of the situation.
We learned a lot from this event and will change how we approach and assist in the establishment of County-Level Chapters.
The State Level Board is available to answer any questions, and you can reach us through the contact information available on this page.
In Christ Jesus,
Rev. Steven D. Hofmeister
